We are seeking Pipelayers for utility/roadway projects in the Richmond, VA area.

SUMMARY

Lays and joins pipe for sewers, water mains, and storm drains, including rigging pipe for hoisting, setting pipe to grade and affixing the pipe joint. Prepares and grades the trenches either manually or by communicating with the equipment operator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Align pipes in pipeline sections according to specifications.
  • Dig trenches with trenching tools.
  • Set pipes into trenches.
  • Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of pipes.
  • Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels.
  • Covers pipe with dirt or other material.
  • Assists others with hands-on work.
  • Works in a safe and responsible manner at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Ability to follow directions;
  • Handle basic hand tools, such as shovel, pick, broom, hammer, saw, paint brushes, etc.
  • Light or heavy handling;
  • Job site housekeeping;
  • Flagging;
  • Erect construction signs, cones, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Two to three years related experience and/or training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
